Check-Ups

Regular dental check-ups are essential to lifelong dental health. These appointments’ primary goals are to check for cavities and abnormalities, assess gum health, and clean your teeth. Our favorite part, however, is getting to educate and encourage our patients to continue excellent care at home. When you see us for a check-up, you will be walked through your x-rays, shown photos of your teeth and gums, and be educated on products (and their proper use) that help support your dental health needs. Some typical services in our check-ups include…

X-Rays: We use x-rays to assess what’s happening in between and below the tooth surfaces, monitor the health of existing fillings, and rule out abnormalities in the jaw bone. Our x-rays are all digital, so taking them is more comfortable and efficient, as well as simple to send to you or a specialist.

Fluoride: we offer safe doses of fluoride to bond vitamins and minerals to your teeth, thus making them stronger and less susceptible to cavities and sensitivity.

Sealants: A non-invasive approach to protect against cavities, sealants are 100% effective against cavities as long as the seal remains intact. Over time, chewing or clenching may wear them down, which is why we check for any compromised areas during your cleanings and offer them before cavities can form.

Night Guards: Did you know at least 25% of Americans grind their teeth to the point of destruction? The damage only increases under stress, but many are unaware of these habits when not conscious. We offer night guards to help protect teeth from damage caused by grinding or clenching—which, for many, occurs at night. And if you already have a night guard, we're happy to clean it for you if you bring it to your check-up.

Fillings, Crowns, & More

Fillings and crowns restore the form and function of broken or otherwise compromised teeth. Downtown Dental offers the following in general fixed (stays in the mouth) restorations:

  • Fillings: Dental fillings are an ideal treatment for smaller issues affecting teeth, such as small-to-moderate-sized cavities. At Downtown Dental, we use tooth-colored fillings—not the silver, metal fillings you may have seen in the past.

  • Crowns and Onlays: We choose to use crowns and onlays (such as partial crowns or veneers) to fix teeth when they’re more seriously compromised or broken down, such as larger cavities and teeth whose structural integrity are compromised by multiple existing fillings. Crowns and onlays are more expensive than fillings, but provide more strength to your tooth and—on average—last longer. Crowns are also used on bridges, which can be an option when more than one neighboring tooth needs to be restored.

Implants

Missing a tooth? Implants are the best options for single-tooth replacement, retaining dentures, and permanent prosthetics in edentulous (toothless) areas. When a tooth is missing, bone begins to resorb in that area. This can result in drifting or shifting teeth, a change in your bite, and even a change in your facial structure (as the bone goes away, so does the support in that area, resulting in that “sunken in” look you may notice in those who have been without teeth for long)!

Implants integrate themselves into the surrounding bone, so that resorption doesn’t happen. After healing, a crown is then placed onto the implant to maintain your beautiful smile. Implants can also be used on bridges and to better retain dentures! Our office offers a variety of these options, and we also work with a team of carefully curated specialists for your best care for more complex implant cases.

Invisalign

Downtown Dental offers Invisalign, which is still considered the gold-standard when it comes to clear-aligner treatment, to help straighten teeth. While there are newer brands available, there are none as vetted or predictable as Invisalign—which is why Dr. Sigler has used them for hundreds of his cases.

Clear-aligner orthodontics are convenient for an active, healthy lifestyle because there is no metal or cumbersome equipment to inhibit your daily lifestyle. After you’ve finished treatment, we provide a set of 4 clear-tray retainers to help keep your teeth in place, protect them from wear, and to be used as touch-up whitening trays.
